I just saw Wicked; it was quite enjoyable! Thanks to the efforts of my family, the music has been familiar to me for over 4 years now, but it was a blast to finally see the musical in its entirety. I've been listening to the original Broadway recording of "What Is This Feeling" (the song from which this post's title is a lyric and, in fact, the answer to the song name), and the LA version was much better; the actress playing Glenda was incredible and very adept at portraying physical comedy in her role, which came through in her songs as well.
A number of friends recently have mentioned that they do not listen to lyrics of songs. This must be why I'm on my own in hating the people on Don't Forget The Lyrics; also, it may be the root of why some friends hate musicals--one must actually pay attention to the lyrics.
My one real problem with Wicked is that while I went in believing it to be simply a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, it's actually one giant retcon. I'll be the first to admit that as the story is, it's definitely needed, but it still doesn't sit 100% well with me. I blame comics for my automatic reviling of retcons. But Legally Blonde is coming to LA next year!
